The Karlovy Vary Christmas Market transforms the city's legendary spa promenade into a festive winter wonderland unlike any other in the Czech Republic. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Mill Colonnade and the grand Art Nouveau and Baroque spa architecture, the market offers a uniquely relaxed atmosphere far removed from the crowds of larger European Christmas markets. Running from late November through January 1st, the market centers on the square in front of the Mill Colonnade, with the festive route stretching from the Thermal Hotel all the way to Theater Square. The Christmas tree is lit ceremonially on the first Advent Sunday near the Thermal Hotel, and over thirty illuminated light installations and photo spots line the spa promenade from Elizabeth's Baths to the Imperial Baths. A smaller satellite market in Dvořák Park offers additional stalls, roasted chestnuts, and a weekend photo corner, while a decorated Christmas train runs through the city center. Food stalls serve classic Czech and Slovak fare including trdelník, lokše flatbreads, langoše, grilled sausages, smoked fish, and hearty potato dishes, alongside mulled wine, punch, hot chocolate, and matcha tea. Shoppers can browse stalls offering Christmas ornaments, Bohemian porcelain, candles, jewelry, wooden decorations, and mineral products. A creative workshop in the Castle Tower above the Market Colonnade adds a hands-on element, and children's craft workshops run on weekends at the City Library. The market also features a cultural program on the Mill Colonnade stage, with performances by well-known Czech musicians and local school ensembles throughout the season. Pay in Czech crowns for the best value, and visit on a weekday for the most peaceful experience.
