Lublin's origins trace to the early Middle Ages, receiving town rights in the fourteenth century and developing into a significant trade center linking Western Europe with the East. The city flourished as a multicultural hub where Polish, Jewish, and other communities coexisted for centuries, earning it the nickname "the Jerusalem of the Kingdom of Poland" due to its vibrant Jewish population and scholarly traditions.
