Explore the magical atmosphere of Koblenz's Christmas markets

Koblenz is one of Germany's oldest cities, founded by the Romans around 8 BC at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Its Latin name, Confluentes, reflects this defining geographic feature. During the medieval period, the Archbishops of Trier made Koblenz a residence, shaping much of its architecture and cultural character. The city later came under French rule during the Napoleonic era before becoming part of Prussia in the nineteenth century, giving its Old Town a distinctly layered character.
Koblenz has a well-established Christmas market tradition that makes use of its historic squares and riverside setting. The market at Jesuitenplatz, set against Baroque architecture, is among the most beloved, with additional markets spread across central locations. The illuminated silhouette of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress combined with market stalls along the Rhine has made Koblenz a distinctive destination on the German Christmas market circuit.
