The Josef-Görres-Platz Christmas market is the youngest of Koblenz's seven festive squares, joining the beloved Koblenzer Weihnachtsmarkt in 2017 and quickly earning a reputation as the city's most relaxed and family-friendly destination during the holiday season. Surrounded by festively illuminated buildings, the square transforms into an idyllic little Christmas village that feels a world apart from the busier market squares nearby. At the heart of the Görresplatz market, a charming miniature train winds its way through a Christmas forest encircling the historic Historiensäule (History Column), delighting young visitors and nostalgic adults alike. Heated seating huts scattered throughout the square invite guests to linger over a glass of the finest Winzerglühwein — regional winemaker mulled wine — even on the coldest winter evenings. Stalls offer a carefully curated selection of sweets, regional culinary products, wines from the Rhineland-Palatinate region, wool goods, decorative items, and Olivenholz (olive wood) artisan pieces. The square also hosts the Klingender Adventskalender, a nightly choral advent calendar running through December, where local choirs from Koblenz and the surrounding region perform festive songs Monday through Friday at 7:00 p.m. On the first and second Advent weekends, the inclusive Christmas market opens here, with stalls run by disability workshops offering handcrafted goods and seasonal items. As part of the broader Koblenzer Weihnachtsmarkt, Josef-Görres-Platz continues operating into early January as part of the Koblenzer Winterzeit extension, making it a great choice for post-Christmas visits.
