The Koblenz Christmas Market is one of the Rhine-Moselle region's most distinctive holiday celebrations, spreading across seven historic squares in Koblenz's charming Altstadt. Rather than concentrating in a single location, the market invites visitors on a festive walking tour through the old town, with each square offering its own unique character and atmosphere. At the heart of the market, Jesuitenplatz dazzles with the city's largest Advent calendar — 24 illuminated dormer windows glowing across the roof of the baroque town hall. Am Plan, where the market was first held over 40 years ago, centers on a beautiful traditional pyramid with cozy seating huts perfect for mulled wine. Münzplatz is the largest and liveliest square, home to the popular Weihnachtsmühle and Münzscheune, drawing younger crowds with mulled wine, mulled beer, and an impressive spread of street food including Flammlachs, Baumstriezel, and fresh potato chips. Josef-Görres-Platz offers a quieter, family-friendly Christmas village atmosphere with a miniature train winding through a festive forest. Willi-Hörter-Platz features the atmospheric SchaEngelbar with regional Winzer mulled wines and a peaceful nativity scene in the historic Rathaus courtyard. Zentralplatz adds a modern contrast with a 70-year-old giant wooden Ferris wheel, while the intimate Liebfrauenkirche forecourt hosts cozy storytelling events on Advent weekends. Shopping spans handcrafted ornaments, Herrnhut stars, nutcrackers, leather goods, and regional wines. The market runs from late November, with five squares continuing into early January as Koblenzer Winterzeit — making it an excellent destination even after Christmas.
