The Koblenzer Weihnachtsmarkt at Jesuitenplatz sits at the very heart of Koblenz's historic old town, serving as the natural starting point for visitors exploring the city's beloved seven-square Christmas market. What truly sets this square apart is its spectacular living Advent calendar: each evening, 24 colorfully illuminated dormer windows on the roof of the baroque town hall light up in sequence, creating a magical focal point that draws visitors back night after night. Surrounded by beautifully preserved half-timbered houses, Jesuitenplatz offers one of the most atmospheric settings of any Christmas market along the Rhine and Moselle. Stalls here are stocked with an impressive range of traditional Christmas goods — from hand-carved nutcrackers, smokers, and Christmas pyramids to Herrnhut stars, unique tree ornaments, candle arches, honey, and scented oils. Near the Citykirche, a dedicated charity booth rotates daily among local clubs and organizations, offering handmade items and raising funds for good causes — a warm community touch that reflects the market's inclusive spirit. The square also hosts the ecumenical Advent meditation series "Der Andere Advent" inside the Citykirche, running Monday through Saturday from November 29 to December 23, with free 20-minute reflective sessions at 5:30 p.m. Note that Jesuitenplatz closes on December 22, earlier than the market's other five squares, which continue as Koblenzer Winterzeit through January 4. Plan your visit on a weekday evening to enjoy the Advent calendar illuminations without the weekend crowds.
