Getting There

Seville Airport, located about 10 kilometers northeast of the city center, offers direct connections to major European cities. Bus and taxi services connect the airport to the city center in approximately 20 minutes. Santa Justa railway station provides high-speed AVE train service from Madrid in under three hours, with connections to Barcelona, Málaga, and other Spanish cities. The city is well-connected by motorway to other destinations in Andalusia.

Where to Stay

The central Arenal and Santa Cruz neighborhoods place visitors within walking distance of major sights, with accommodation ranging from boutique guesthouses to larger hotels. The Triana district across the river offers a more local atmosphere with excellent dining while remaining conveniently close to the historic core. Booking ahead is advisable during peak seasons.

Other Attractions

The UNESCO-listed cathedral is the largest Gothic church in the world and houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The Giralda bell tower offers panoramic city views. The Alcázar palace complex showcases Moorish and Christian architecture set within lush gardens. Plaza de España features distinctive tilework and a picturesque canal. The Santa Cruz quarter's narrow whitewashed streets are lined with tapas bars and traditional shops. Flamenco performances in tablaos provide authentic Andalusian culture. Day trips to nearby Córdoba or the sherry-producing towns of Jerez and El Puerto de Santa María are easily accessible.

History & Culture

Founded as the Roman city of Hispalis, Seville rose to prominence under Moorish rule from the 8th to 13th centuries, becoming a center of learning and culture. After the Christian reconquest in 1248, the city flourished as the gateway to the New World, with its monopoly on trade with the Americas bringing immense wealth and artistic patronage during the Golden Age. This legacy is visible in the grand monuments and the blend of Islamic, Christian, and Jewish influences that define the city's character. Seville's reputation for religious devotion is exemplified by its elaborate Holy Week processions. The mild Andalusian climate makes the winter season an especially pleasant time to explore, with sunny days and cool evenings ideal for strolling through the city.
