Advent like in a Fairy Tale transforms the beloved Grottenbahn (Grotto Railway) on Pöstlingberg mountain into a magical Christmas wonderland every Advent Sunday and December 8th. This enchanting Christmas experience combines Linz's famous fairy tale attraction with special holiday programming that delights families and children. Sebastian the dwarf and his companions host a festive program featuring storytelling performances, interactive theater, and traditional Christmas tales at the Märchenhauptplatz (Fairy Tale Main Square). Each Sunday brings different entertainment, from winter fairy tales with traditional Bockpfeife music to Slavic folk stories and participatory theater with Benny Barfuß. Young visitors can explore a wishing corner where they write their Christmas wishes, create crafts at the dedicated station, and browse a small market with seasonal treats. The Grottenbahn itself takes families on a charming dragon ride through illuminated grottos filled with fairy tale scenes, making this a uniquely Austrian Christmas tradition. On Christmas Eve, the attraction opens for a special "Waiting for the Christ Child" event where every child receives a sweet surprise.
