The Antwerp Christmas Market transforms Belgium's historic diamond capital into a sprawling winter wonderland spread across multiple iconic squares in the city center. From early December through early January, over 100 festive market stalls create a magical atmosphere across the Grote Markt, Groenplaats, Handschoenmarkt, Suikerrui, Hendrik Conscienceplein, and Operaplein. Each location offers its own unique character, from the medieval grandeur of the Grote Markt with its guild houses to the lively Groenplaats with its ice skating rink. The market features a 55-meter Ferris wheel at Astridplein offering panoramic views of the illuminated city, while the Magical Winter Forest showcases enchanting light sculptures throughout the historic streets. Visitors can glide across the ice rink, browse traditional Belgian crafts and Christmas decorations, and warm up with glühwein and Belgian waffles at the cozy winterbar. The festive atmosphere extends along the decorated Meir shopping street, connecting the various market zones into one cohesive winter experience. Special events include the opening celebration on December 5th and a New Year's drink on the final day. Plan to spend at least 2-3 hours wandering the 5-kilometer route between all locations to fully experience this expansive Belgian Christmas tradition.
