Christmas Markets in Plovdiv

Plovdiv is widely regarded as one of Europe's oldest continuously inhabited cities, with settlements on its distinctive syenite hills dating back thousands of years. It flourished as Philippopolis under Philip II of Macedon and later became an important provincial capital during the Roman Empire, leaving behind monuments still visible today. Through Byzantine, Ottoman, and Bulgarian periods, the city accumulated a layered cultural identity evident in its architecture and religious heritage.
