Advent u Varaždinu

Advent in Varaždin (Advent u Varaždinu) is Croatia's award-winning Christmas celebration, having been voted 'The Most Beautiful Advent in Croatia' by public vote for two consecutive years. Spread across multiple squares in Varaždin's beautifully preserved baroque city center, this festive event transforms the historic streets into an enchanting winter wonderland from late November through early January. At the heart of the celebration is the signature 'Magical City of Santa Claus' (Čarobni Grad Djeda Mraza), a fantasy zone where children and adults alike can meet Santa Claus himself, experience Rudolph's Magical Flight and the Magical Elevator, and take part in hands-on workshops — from baking Christmas cookies and LEGO building to ceramic modeling and crafting wooden jewelry. The main square, Korzo, serves as the festive hub, lined with colorful market stalls and wooden houses offering traditional food, local souvenirs, and holiday gifts. The iconic Ice Magic rink (Ledena Čarolija) has become a beloved symbol of the event, drawing skaters of all ages beneath fairy-tale lighting. A panoramic Ferris wheel and carousel offer sweeping views over the illuminated historic center. For a more intimate experience, Stančić Square hosts a romantic satellite market with a quieter, cozy atmosphere. Traditional Croatian treats like fritule (fried dough balls) and a rich gastronomic program round out the sensory experience.
