Vánoční trhy - Republic Square

The Christmas Market at Republic Square transforms Pilsen's historic heart into one of the Czech Republic's most enchanting winter destinations. From late November through December 23rd, over 60 wooden stalls create a festive village atmosphere where traditional crafts meet regional culinary delights. The market's centerpiece is a magnificent 16-meter Christmas tree that illuminates the square, complemented by a life-sized carved wooden nativity scene featuring authentic details—though Baby Jesus doesn't appear until December 17th, maintaining a cherished local tradition. Visitors can ring the Christmas bell tower to make wishes, watch live animals in the stable, and enjoy rides on the historic carousel and illuminated Ferris wheel. The Pilsen night watchman adds authentic medieval charm by announcing evening hours at 5pm and 6pm with powerful horn blasts. Daily cultural programming includes folk tradition demonstrations, craft workshops, and carol singing, with special events like the Saint Nicholas Show on December 5th and collective carol singing with Czech bands on December 11th and 18th. The market operates daily from 10am to 8pm, offering mulled wine, traditional trdelník pastries, and regional specialties.
