The Wandsbeker Winterzauber transforms Wandsbek's central market square into Hamburg's first winter village, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025/26. Running from November 1st through New Year's Day, this festive destination combines traditional Christmas market charm with active winter sports in Hamburg's largest district. The centerpiece is a 240-square-meter ecological Like-Ice skating rink made from energy-saving, recyclable synthetic material that allows ice skating regardless of temperature. Daily disco music accompanies skaters from noon until evening, creating a lively atmosphere unique among Hamburg Christmas markets. The romantic winter village surrounds the rink with cozy alpine-style huts featuring open fireplaces and a panoramic terrace overlooking the entire scene. Visitors can warm up with traditional treats from bratwurst to Schmalzgebäck (fried pastries) and hearty Glühwein while children enjoy the vintage carousel. Special events include Ladies' Night every Monday with half-price skating and drinks, Family Wednesdays with reduced rates, After-Work on Ice sessions, and a visit from St. Nicholas on December 6th. The market opens nearly 50 days before Christmas, launching Hamburg's Glühwein season earlier than most city markets. With thousands of LED lights adorning the surrounding trees and festive decorations throughout, the Wandsbeker Winterzauber offers an intimate, neighborhood alternative to Hamburg's larger downtown Christmas markets while maintaining authentic holiday atmosphere.
