The Brașov Christmas Market transforms Council Square (Piața Sfatului) into a magical winter wonderland in the heart of Transylvania's most enchanting medieval city. Set against a backdrop of pastel-colored baroque buildings and the iconic Black Church, this market features one of Romania's tallest natural Christmas trees—a spectacular 30-meter fir weighing 17 tons, illuminated by over 1.3 million twinkling lights throughout the historic center. The 2024-2025 edition showcases 45 traditional wooden chalets offering authentic Romanian crafts, handmade ceramics, wool accessories, and glass ornaments, plus 10 dedicated food stalls serving hearty traditional fare. Beyond Council Square, the festive atmosphere extends to Saint John Square with its enormous canopy of lights, the Rectorate area with its mini Christmas market, and the Tâmpa Alley featuring oversized figurines and photo opportunities. Republic Street dazzles with its luminous ceiling and rows of decorated fir trees, while Union Square hosts a nativity scene. Visitors can savor kürtőskalács (chimney cakes), mulled wine, and traditional sarmale while soaking in the romantic medieval ambiance. Arrive early on weekends to fully experience this authentic Romanian Christmas tradition without the crowds.
