Čarobni Maribor — Magical Maribor — transforms the city's historic Main Square (Glavni trg) into a glittering Christmas village each winter, drawing visitors with a blend of festive markets, live entertainment, and a towering panoramic Ferris wheel. Running from late November through early January, the market is the centerpiece of a citywide celebration spanning more than 200 events across 38 days, making it one of Slovenia's most ambitious holiday programs. At the heart of the Christmas market on Main Square, the Božična vas (Christmas Village) offers stalls filled with handcrafted gifts, local products, and seasonal food and drink, all framed by decorations built from natural materials. The giant panoramic Ferris wheel — standing approximately 33 metres tall — operates daily and offers sweeping views over Maribor's illuminated rooftops for €8 per ride. Magical photo spots are scattered throughout the square, and the beloved Vilinsko mesto (Fairy City) creates an enchanting dedicated zone for children, complete with imaginative activities and costumed characters. Evening concerts bring the square to life on a regular schedule, with local and regional acts performing throughout December. A midday New Year's Eve celebration on December 31st adds a family-friendly twist to the festivities. The broader Čarobni Maribor programme also includes free outdoor concerts at nearby Leon Štuklja Square, a romantic Path of Kisses through the city centre, and festive lighting along the Drava riverfront. The market is powered by renewable energy from a local solar installation, reflecting the city's commitment to sustainability.
