The Bregenzer Weihnacht (Bregenz Christmas) transforms Vorarlberg's lakeside capital into a festive wonderland each year, spreading its holiday magic across several distinct areas of the city center, including the charming Leutbühel square. This multi-venue market is one of the most atmospheric Christmas celebrations on Lake Constance, combining traditional craftsmanship, culinary delights, and family entertainment against a stunning Alpine and lakeside backdrop. At Leutbühel, the ceremonial illumination of the Christmas tree marks the official opening of the season, setting the tone for weeks of festive celebration. The broader Bregenz Christmas experience spans Kornmarktplatz, Rathausstraße, Leutbühel, and the historic Oberstadt (upper town), each area offering its own character. The Kornmarktplatz hosts the main decorated market with artisan stalls and gift vendors, while the Oberstadt arts and crafts market runs across three special weekends, showcasing local artists in Bregenz's medieval old town. Families will find plenty to enjoy: an artificial ice skating rink, a nostalgic carousel, a Ferris wheel, a living nativity scene at Leutbühel, and a varied children's program on weekends. From Friday through Sunday, choirs and live concerts fill the air with seasonal music. The spectacular "Rathausleuchten" light animation projected onto the town hall facade is a visual highlight not to be missed. Food and drink stalls serve hot punch, roasted almonds, gingerbread, and regional winter specialties throughout the day. A unique bonus is the Vorarlberg Lines Christmas ship connecting Bregenz with the Lindau harbor Christmas market across Lake Constance on select days. The market runs daily from November 15 through December 23, with trade stalls open 11 AM–8 PM and food and drink vendors until 9 PM.
