The Adventdorf am Stadtplatz transforms Steyr's magnificent historic town square into an enchanting Christmas village each November and December, centered around the iconic Leopoldibrunnen (Leopold Fountain). Under the theme 'Glühend, klingend und genussvoll' — Glowing, Ringing, and Delightful — this beloved Austrian Christmas market brings together culinary artisans, live music, and cherished local traditions in one of Upper Austria's most beautifully preserved medieval settings. Arranged around the fountain, nine distinct food and drink stalls offer everything from Bratwürstl and Bauernkrapfen at the Dorfwirt LEOPOLD stand to Vorarlberger Kässpätzle, Kaspressknödel, fresh fish, homemade waffles, Zimtschnecken, and creative hot cocktails including Hot Aperol and Hot Gin. The market runs Wednesday through Sunday with all stalls open 1:00–9:00 PM, while at least three stalls remain open on Mondays and Tuesdays as well. The entertainment program is exceptionally rich: traditional brass ensembles perform Advent music from the town hall balcony, Schuhplattler folk dancers perform on the square, and DJ evenings bring a lively Feierabend (after-work) atmosphere. The beloved Steyrer Christkindl (Steyr Christ Child) makes multiple personal appearances throughout the season, and visitors can drop wishes into a dedicated Christkind mailbox. Blacksmith demonstrations, a traditional Barbara Day beer-tapping ceremony, and the atmospheric Wallerner Trattnachteufel Perchten procession add unique folkloric depth. An antique carriage beside the fountain has become the market's most popular photo spot. Arrive by train at Steyr Bahnhof (about 10 minutes on foot) or by bus directly to the Stadtplatz stop for the most convenient access to this free-admission market.
