The Nantes Christmas Market at Place du Commerce is part of western France's largest festive celebration, spreading across two of the city's most vibrant central squares alongside Place Royale. This location brings together the city's unique cultural identity — where Breton traditions meet Loire Valley heritage and Atlantic coastal influences — creating a distinctly Nantais holiday atmosphere unlike any other French Christmas market. Place du Commerce serves as the hub for the market's popular ice skating rink, drawing families and visitors of all ages into the festive spirit. Around 130 to 170 chalets fill the square and its neighbor, offering a carefully curated mix of artisanal crafts, regional food specialties, and gift ideas. Notably, over 56% of exhibitors hail from Nantes and surrounding regions, ensuring an authentically local experience. The market runs from late November through December 28, open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 9:30pm and Sundays until 8pm, with adjusted hours on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. All animations and entertainment are free, including visits with Santa Claus on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, plus creative workshops for children. The square is fully accessible for visitors with reduced mobility, and the Commerce tram stop (Lines 1, 2, and 3) is just a two-minute walk away, making it easy to arrive without a car.
