The Christkindlesmarkt Bayreuth is a beloved traditional Christmas market set along the Stadtparkett pedestrian zone of Maximilianstraße, nestled between the historic hospital church and the Old Castle in the heart of Bayreuth. What truly sets this market apart is its spectacular backdrop: over six kilometers of glittering lights illuminate the entire city center, creating one of Upper Franconia's most enchanting festive atmospheres. With around 40–50 decorated wooden stalls lining the pedestrian zone, the Christkindlesmarkt Bayreuth offers a rich mix of handcrafted gifts, Christmas decorations, and wooden gift ideas alongside a tempting array of seasonal treats. The air is filled with the scent of freshly baked gingerbread, roasted almonds, and children's punch, while adults warm up with traditional mulled wine and other regional specialties. Each year, the market is officially opened by the Bayreuth Christkind, who continues to visit throughout the season, handing out small surprises to young visitors and reading stories aloud. The daily stage program on the Aktionsbühne features choirs, theater groups, storytellers, school and kindergarten performances, and visits from St. Nicholas — making this market especially rewarding for families. Every Advent Sunday, a raffle lottery takes place at 4 p.m. on the main stage, with prizes donated by local sponsors. Special events include Midnight Shopping with a night watchman tour, the community Sternlas-Baum ornament tradition on December 9th, and eight guided night watchman tours through Bayreuth's medieval lanes.
