The Duisburg Christmas Market (Duisburger Weihnachtsmarkt) stands out as one of Germany's longest-running Advent markets by duration, opening in mid-November — weeks before most German markets — and staying open all the way through December 30. Stretching along Königstraße in Duisburg's city center, the market transforms the Innenstadt into a glittering winter wonderland with over 115 lovingly decorated wooden stalls, festive fir trees, and spectacular light installations that create a magical atmosphere after dark. Visitors can explore a rich variety of traditional crafts, handmade Christmas ornaments, and unique gift ideas from local artisans. The culinary offerings are equally impressive: warm Glühwein flows from a distinctive Glühwein ship and pyramid, while the scent of Bratwurst, potato pancakes, Lebkuchen, and flame-grilled salmon fills the air. Signature gathering spots like Bernies Alm add a cozy alpine feel to the festivities. Families will find plenty to enjoy beyond the stalls. A large synthetic ice skating rink at Kuhtor offers climate-neutral fun for all ages, and a new curling-style Eisstock lane adds a playful competitive element. A classic Ferris wheel near Steinsche Gasse provides panoramic views over the market. Three stages host choirs, bands, and performers throughout the season, while a dedicated "Sternenweg" (Star Path) of illuminated archways guides visitors from the main train station directly into the heart of the festivities. For the best experience, visit on a weekday evening when the light installations are fully illuminated and the crowds are thinner — and check the stage schedule in advance to catch a live choir performance.

Multiple paid parking garages and lots are available in the Innenstadt (city center). Garages can fill quickly on Saturdays during the Advent season. Note: the former Galeria Kaufhof parking garage on Düsseldorfer Straße is no longer available. Public transit is strongly recommended — DVG tram lines 901 and 903 run at 15-minute intervals during market hours, with a dedicated Christmas market shuttle operating in the evenings between Scholtenhofstraße and Stadtmitte.
