Experience Quedlinburger Weihnachtsmarkt

The Quedlinburger Weihnachtsmarkt transforms the historic Marktplatz of Quedlinburg — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — into a breathtaking winter wonderland framed by centuries-old half-timbered houses. Twice awarded the title of most beautiful Christmas market in Saxony-Anhalt, this beloved market draws thousands of visitors from across Germany and beyond each holiday season. At the heart of the market stands a towering illuminated Christmas tree in front of the Rathaus, alongside the iconic rotating Christmas pyramid — a signature landmark that gives the gathering its festive focal point. More than 50 stalls line the Marktplatz, offering an enticing mix of artisan crafts and culinary delights. The scent of Glühwein, cinnamon stars, and gingerbread fills the crisp winter air as visitors browse handcrafted Christmas decorations and locally made gifts. Families will find plenty to enjoy, from carousel rides and cotton candy to a daily living Advent calendar (Lebendiger Adventskalender) that opens a new door along the Schlossberg each day from December 1 through 24. Santa Claus makes regular appearances, and live music performances add to the festive atmosphere throughout the run of the market. Beyond the main market, Quedlinburg's Adventsstadt program encompasses additional events including the unique Advent in den Höfen — where the city's most beautiful historic courtyards open their doors on three Advent weekends — and the Grubenlichtermarkt in nearby Bad Suderode. After the main market closes on December 22, the Christmas pyramid remains open through January 6, offering a reason to visit well into the new year. Plan to arrive on a Saturday for the longest opening hours and the liveliest atmosphere.
