Explore the magical atmosphere of Szentendre's Christmas markets

Szentendre's history stretches back to Roman times, when a military garrison known as Ulcisia Castra occupied the site along the Danube bend. The town's defining chapter came in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, when Serbian refugees fleeing Ottoman expansion settled here and left an enduring cultural and architectural imprint. Their legacy is visible in the cluster of Serbian Orthodox churches that punctuate the skyline, giving Szentendre a character unlike any other Hungarian town. By the early 20th century, the town had reinvented itself as an artists' colony, attracting painters and craftspeople drawn by its light, riverside setting, and layered history. That creative identity has deepened over the decades, making Szentendre one of the most culturally rich small towns in the region.

Join me on this walking tour of the Christmas Market in Szentendre, Hungary. It is a charming and intimate Christmas Market not as main stream as the big ones. Located just 20km from Budapest, it definitely worth a day trip if you prefer the smaller Christmas Markets. Even without the Christmas Market, Szentendre is worth a visit all year around. I'll be walking through the streets, visiting the stalls and the Christmas Museum. Taken in November 29, 2025 5pm Temperature 3C Timestamps 00:00 In
