Luxembourg Christmas Market - Place d'Armes

The Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart at Place d'Armes is Luxembourg City's oldest and most traditional Christmas market, tracing its roots back to 1984. Nestled in the heart of the old town's historic parade square, it forms the centerpiece of the city-wide Winterlights festival, drawing visitors into a warmly lit world of wooden chalets, festive aromas, and authentic Luxembourgish holiday spirit. Around 38 illuminated chalets fill the square, offering a rich mix of handmade goods and seasonal treats. Local artisans display hand-crafted jewelry, wooden toys, candles, Christmas decorations, and wrought-iron figurines, while food vendors serve up beloved Luxembourgish specialties. Gromperekichelcher — crispy, spiced potato pancakes — are a crowd favorite, alongside hearty mettwurst sausages, spätzle egg noodle pasta, and warming Glühwein. The square is anchored by a towering 12-meter Nordmann fir Christmas tree adorned with golden, red, and green ornaments, and a giant nativity scene installed at the square's iconic kiosk adds a deeply traditional touch. Families will appreciate the carousel (Le Chahut des contes) and the magical Wanterzuch miniature train winding through a winter forest scene. A Wanterchalet provides a cozy gathering spot within the market itself. The broader Winterlights festival extends the experience across the city, with an outdoor ice skating rink at Kinnekswiss park, a Ferris wheel at Place de la Constitution, and festive light installations throughout the streets.
