The Târgul de Crăciun Oradea transforms the heart of western Romania's most architecturally striking city into a festive wonderland each winter, spreading across two interconnected squares: Union Square and Ferdinand Square. Set against a backdrop of magnificent Art Nouveau and Secessionist buildings — including the illuminated City Hall, the Black Eagle Palace, and the Greek Catholic Episcopal Palace — the market creates a visual spectacle unlike any other in Romania. The market spans dozens of themed wooden chalets offering an impressive range of goods and flavors. Food lovers can graze on traditional Romanian pies, langos, chimney cake, grill specialties, pizza, burgers, bubble tea, churros, and popcorn, while dedicated coffee bars and specialty drink stalls serve mulled wine and seasonal beverages. Artisan vendors sell handmade decorations, jewelry, semi-precious stones, toys, gift baskets, cheeses, and homemade chocolate. Attractions go well beyond shopping: a towering 30-meter panoramic Ferris wheel in Union Square offers sweeping views of the illuminated city center, while Ferdinand Square hosts a generous 520-square-meter natural ice skating rink in front of the State Theatre. Children enjoy a miniature carousel, Santa's cottage with scheduled meet-and-greet sessions, a small train, and a clay painting workshop. The main stage in Union Square hosts nightly concerts ranging from traditional Romanian folk performances by the Bihorul Folk Ensemble to jazz, gospel, pop, and carol shows. The market runs Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturday through Sunday from noon to 10:00 PM — arrive on a weekend afternoon to enjoy the full program of afternoon performances before the headline evening concerts.
