The Sibiu Christmas Fair transforms the Grand Square (Piața Mare) in Sibiu's medieval historic center into Romania's most celebrated winter destination, drawing over 600,000 visitors across its 52-day season. Initiated in 2007 — the year Sibiu was named European Capital of Culture — this internationally recognized event has grown into a beloved tradition now ranked in the World Top 10 by Big-7 Travel. At the heart of the fair, more than 120 exhibitors from all 36 Romanian counties and international locations fill charming wooden stalls with handcrafted goods, traditional textiles, ceramics, and festive ornaments. The Grand Square stage hosts a packed program of live concerts, carol performances, and seasonal shows throughout the season. Families flock to Santa's Workshop, where children aged 5–9 participate in creative craft sessions across five rotating themes — welcoming over 4,000 young visitors each year. The Enchanted Elevator offers a whimsical five-minute journey to Santa's House, with tickets bookable online. Thrill-seekers can ride the 22-meter panoramic Ferris wheel for sweeping views over the illuminated old town, while ice skating enthusiasts enjoy a 600-square-meter rink with capacity for 300 skaters at once. The fair is free to enter and open Monday through Friday from 11:00 to 22:00, and Saturday through Sunday from 10:00 to 22:00. Arrive on a weekday evening for a more relaxed atmosphere and the full magic of the festively lit Grand Square.
