Banská Bystrica's Christmas market transforms the city's two adjoining pedestrianized central squares — SNP Square and Stefan Moysesa Square — into a festive wonderland framed by colorful townhouses and baroque monuments. Running from late November through New Year's Day, the Banskobystrické Vianoce (Banská Bystrica Christmas) celebration is one of central Slovakia's most beloved seasonal events, drawing locals and visitors alike to the heart of this historic city beneath Urpín hill. The market spans multiple zones, including the historic Old Market Hall (Stará Tržnica) on Stefan Moysesa Square, which hosts regional craft markets on selected dates in December with opening hours from noon to 6 p.m. Food and refreshment stalls operate daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. through January 1st, while gift and souvenir stalls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through December 21st.
