The Bled Winter Fairy Tale (Blejska zimska pravljica) transforms one of Europe's most scenic Alpine destinations into a glittering holiday wonderland each winter. Set along the Lakeside Promenade with breathtaking views of Lake Bled, the iconic island church, and the thousand-year-old Bled Castle perched on its clifftop, this market offers a backdrop that few Christmas events anywhere can rival. Running from late November through early January, the Winter Fairy Tale fills the Lakeside Promenade and Central Park with charming wooden stalls, festive light sculptures, and a lively programme of free events every weekend — with daily events from late December through the New Year. The 2024/25 theme of 'Romantic Bled' is brought to life through illuminated sculptures celebrating local legends: the traditional pletna boat, the fijaker horse-and-carriage, and the beloved Bled Cream Cake (Kremšnita), invented at the Park Café in 1953. A sustainable plastic ice rink with lake views adds a playful seasonal touch. Food and craft stalls certified under the Bled Local Selection label offer traditional Gorenjska cuisine, warming mulled wine, and Carniolan sausages alongside handmade gifts and artisan products. The concert stage hosts over 25 free performances by top Slovenian musicians, from folk and polka ensembles on Sundays to pop, rock, and tribute acts on Friday and Saturday evenings. Children's programming runs Sunday mornings, and a special early New Year's celebration is organized for families. The undisputed highlight is the Legend of the Sunken Bell re-enactment on Christmas Day (December 25), a beloved Bled tradition that draws visitors from across Slovenia and beyond. Arrive early on weekends to secure a good spot along the promenade for the evening concerts.
