The XVI Muestra Navideña transforms Plaza del Pilar — the largest pedestrian square in Spain — into Zaragoza's spectacular winter wonderland for 39 consecutive days, from late November through Epiphany on January 6. Anchored by what is recognized as the largest nativity scene in Europe at life-size scale, this Christmas market in Zaragoza draws over 400,000 visitors each season with a remarkable blend of tradition and festive entertainment. At the heart of the market, around 40 stalls offer artisan crafts, handmade nativity figurines, traditional Aragonese products, jewelry, Christmas decorations, and warm seasonal foods. The monumental Belén de Judea — spanning approximately 1,000 square meters with over 100 figures including 56 life-size characters — is free to visit and features an interactive QR-based mystery game for all ages. Beyond the market stalls, the plaza hosts a covered ice skating rink (600 m², the largest in the city), a five-lane pneumatic toboggan run with a 38-meter descent, the Dreamland family zone with two-story carousels, Sweet Palace, a miniature train, and Santa's House with in-person visits through Christmas Eve. Daily programming includes concerts, puppet shows, carol singers, storytelling, and free craft workshops. The official opening coincides with Zaragoza's citywide Christmas lights ceremony on November 29, with the plaza illuminating at 6:45 PM. Market hours run Monday–Friday 11:00–22:00 and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays 11:00–midnight, making evening visits especially atmospheric. Arrive on a weekday morning to explore the Belén and market stalls with fewer crowds.
