The Noël des Alpes Christmas market transforms Annecy's enchanting old town into a festive wonderland each winter, drawing over 500,000 visitors to one of the French Alps' most atmospheric holiday celebrations. Spread across the historic heart of the city, the market blends Alpine tradition with warm Savoyard hospitality in a setting framed by medieval canals, snow-capped mountains, and centuries-old churches. The Marché de Noël du Vieil Annecy anchors the festivities with around 80 wooden chalets clustered around the churches of Saint-François-de-Sales and Saint-Maurice, along Place Saint-François de Sales, Quai du Semnoz, Rue Saint-Maurice, and Quai Eustache Chappuis. For 2025, the event has been significantly expanded, with more than 160 chalets stretching from the Lac district all the way to the Jardins de l'Europe. The ice rink and festive zone have relocated to the lakeside Jardins de l'Europe, offering a spectacular Alpine backdrop for skating and seasonal entertainment. Visitors can browse stalls offering regional crafts from Savoie, Alsatian specialties, handmade artisan goods, and classic Alpine food and drink. Santa Claus greets children at Place de l'Ancienne Grenette, while magical walks, live musical performances, and creative workshops animate the market throughout the season. Cultural programming extends beyond the market itself, running from late November through early January. Entry to the market is completely free, making it an accessible celebration for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. Arrive in the early evening to experience the illuminations at their most magical against Annecy's stunning old town backdrop.
