The Bonner Weihnachtsmarkt transforms Bonn's historic city center into an enchanting festive village each winter, spreading across six interconnected squares and streets for a uniquely walkable Christmas market experience. Organized by the Federal City of Bonn, this beloved market draws visitors with its relaxed, less-crowded atmosphere compared to larger neighboring markets, making it ideal for leisurely exploration and genuine connections with local artisans. At the heart of the market, Münsterplatz serves as the main hub, flanked by the iconic Bonn Minster cathedral and packed with the greatest concentration of stalls. From there, the market flows through Vivatsgasse and Windeckstraße to Bottlerplatz, continues along Poststraße from the main train station, and extends to Friedensplatz and Remigiusplatz. With over 160 vendor stalls in total, shoppers can browse decorative handcrafted goods, seasonal ornaments, and artisan creations while watching craftspeople at work. A towering illuminated Christmas tree and a large Christmas pyramid housing a Glühwein stand are landmark features on Münsterplatz, alongside the beloved Bonner Riesenrad Ferris wheel for children. Food and drink options are plentiful throughout the market: organic bratwurst, flame-grilled salmon, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), Stollen, marzipan, and fried fish sit alongside warming mugs of Winzerglühwein, Bönnsch beer, and hot punch. The market runs daily from mid-November through December 23, closing only on Totensonntag, with food and drink stalls staying open later on Fridays and Saturdays. For those who want to extend the festive spirit, the associated Dreikönigsmarkt on Remigiusplatz continues into early January. Arrive by public transit via Bonn Hauptbahnhof for the easiest access to the Poststraße entrance.
