Erlanger Winterzauber

The Erlanger Winterzauber (Erlangen Winter Magic) is a unique umbrella Christmas event that transforms the historic Huguenot city of Erlangen into a multi-venue festive destination each Advent season. Rather than a single market, it brings together three distinct Christmas markets spread across the city center, offering visitors a varied and immersive holiday experience unlike anywhere else in the Franconia region. At the heart of the event is the Erlanger Waldweihnacht on Schlossplatz, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Margrave's Palace. This forest-themed market features real fir trees, a woodland floor atmosphere, a children's carousel, and a charming Wichtelhaus (gnome house) with candle-making and baking workshops for kids. Just steps away, the Historischer Weihnachtsmarkt at Neustädter Kirchenplatz transports visitors to the Middle Ages with costumed performers, fire-breathers, stilt walkers, and hot mead served at atmospheric stalls. The Altstädter Weihnachtsmarkt at Altstädter Kirchenplatz showcases local artisans, handmade goods from nearby studios, and the beloved homemade quince punch. Beyond the three markets, the Winterzauber umbrella event includes Erlangen like on Ice, a CO2-neutral skating rink at Marktplatz open through early January, and Rudolph's Weihnachtsexpress, a miniature Christmas train circling a decorated winter landscape at Hugenottenplatz.
