The Weihnachtsmarkt & Weihnachtswald Goslar is one of Germany's most enchanting Christmas markets, set against the backdrop of a UNESCO-listed medieval old town in the heart of the Harz region. Its crown jewel, the Weihnachtswald (Christmas Forest) at Schuhhof, transforms the historic city center into a glowing woodland wonderland with approximately 60 large illuminated conifer trees and over 160,000 lights — open each evening until 22:00, long after the main market closes. Recognized as an Excellent European Christmas Market, this event draws visitors from across the continent for good reason. Around 70 lovingly decorated wooden stalls fill the market with the irresistible aromas of cinnamon, roasted almonds, and mulled wine. Shoppers browse regional specialties, handcrafted gifts, and unique Christmas ornaments, all framed by picturesque half-timbered architecture. The market runs from late November through December 30, with special hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and December 26, making it one of the longest-running holiday markets in Lower Saxony. Families will find plenty to delight children, including a Ferris wheel, a miniature children's train winding through the mini Christmas Forest, goats at the North Pole, a Christmas workshop, visits from St. Nicholas, and family afternoons with free carousel rides. Adults can sip hot punch or Glühwein beneath the fragrant fir trees, soaking in the serene forest atmosphere right in the city center — a truly rare experience. Guided city tours with a mulled wine stop in the Weihnachtswald are also available for those wanting a deeper connection to Goslar's remarkable history.
