Goslar is easily reached by train from Hanover, the main regional hub with connections to Germany's national rail network. Travelers flying into Hanover Airport can reach Goslar by train in approximately one hour. The city is also accessible by car via major motorway routes through Lower Saxony, making it a convenient base for exploring the Harz region.

Goslar's UNESCO-listed old town preserves over 1,500 half-timbered houses along cobbled streets, representing one of Germany's finest medieval townscapes. The Kaiserpfalz, a striking Romanesque palace, served as a seat of the Holy Roman Emperors and remains the city's most iconic landmark. History & Culture

Goslar's development was shaped by the discovery of rich silver deposits in the nearby Rammelsberg mountain over a thousand years ago. By the tenth century, the city had become a favored residence of the Holy Roman Emperors, who built the Kaiserpfalz as a symbol of imperial authority. Mining wealth transformed Goslar into one of medieval Germany's most prosperous cities, funding the elaborate churches, guildhalls, and merchant houses that define its character today. The city later joined the Hanseatic League, strengthening its commercial reach across northern Europe. Largely spared from wartime destruction, Goslar's remarkable preservation means visitors encounter a townscape genuinely rooted in its medieval past. In winter, snow-dusted half-timbered facades and candlelit windows create an atmosphere that feels authentically historical.
