The Liège Christmas Village (Village de Noël de Liège) is Belgium's oldest Christmas market, spreading across Place du Marché, Place St-Lambert, and Place de la Cathédrale in the heart of the Cité Ardente. With over 38 years of history and drawing approximately 1.5 million visitors from across Europe each season, this beloved market has earned Liège the title of European Capital of Christmas. Running from late November through December 30, the Village de Noël transforms the city center into a festive wonderland of more than 200 timber chalets staffed by around 300 artisans and craftspeople. The market stretches from the esplanade in front of the Opéra all the way through to Place du Marché, creating a rich, walkable holiday experience. Highlights include a spectacular ferris wheel, a thrilling sledding hill, a Christmas pyramid, and a separate ice skating rink on Place de la Cathédrale open through early January. The market embraces a genuine village identity, complete with its own mayor, aldermen, church, post office, and honorary citizens — a charming tradition unique to Liège. Shoppers will find Walloon and French artisan crafts, handmade ceramics, jewelry, candles, and Christmas decorations alongside gourmet food chalets offering everything from oysters and foie gras to warm mulled wine, Belgian pékèt, and flammekueche. Live concerts, folklore performances, DJ nights on the ice rink, and Latin dance evenings keep the atmosphere lively throughout the season. Arrive by tram on Line T1 (stop: Place St-Lambert) for the easiest access to this sprawling, festive celebration.

Park & Ride (P+R) car parks available on the outskirts of the city at Vottem, Standard, and Liège Expo, with tram and bus connections to the market area.
