Mons Coeur en Neige (Mons Heart in Snow) is one of Wallonia's most beloved Christmas celebrations, transforming the historic city center of Mons, Belgium into a multi-venue winter wonderland every December. Now in its 21st edition, this sprawling event is organized across three distinct festive poles — the Grand-Place, Place Léopold, and Marché aux Herbes — all connected by a free fairy-tale tourist train that runs throughout the event. At the heart of the Christmas market, the Grand-Place hosts the traditional Village de Noël, featuring around 50 decorated chalets, a towering Christmas tree, a magical kiosk stage, and visits from Father and Mother Christmas. This year, the Grand-Place spotlights the Alsace region of France, with colorful chalets showcasing its distinctive culinary specialties. The Marché aux Herbes dazzles with a luminous sky canopy and additional market stalls, while Place Léopold — near the train station — hosts a covered ice rink open through early January, a Luna Park, and its own Christmas market. Throughout December, the event fills the streets with free street performances, roaming stilt walkers, choral concerts, DJ evenings, light spectacles, and charity initiatives including free soup distribution. Highlights include the official inauguration on December 6th, the Balade des Lumières lantern procession, and a New Year's Eve celebration. Reusable cups are used for all beverages, reflecting a commitment to sustainability. Getting there is easy — Mons train station is just a 10-minute walk from the Grand-Place, with frequent connections from Brussels and Lille, making this festive market an ideal day trip from across the region.
