Advent u Splitu

Advent in Split (Advent u Splitu) is one of the Adriatic coast's most distinctive Christmas festivals, blending Dalmatian tradition with contemporary entertainment across roughly ten locations throughout Split's historic city center. Running under the evocative slogan 'U to vrime godišta' (In That Time of Year), the festival stretches from late November all the way through Epiphany on January 7th, giving visitors an unusually long window to experience the festivities. The heart of the celebration beats across iconic city spaces: the People's Square (Pjaca) hosts live nativity scenes and headline concerts by beloved Croatian artists such as Miroslav Škoro, Vanna, and Magazin; the Prokurative colonnade square features an ice skating rink alongside nightly concerts; and the Garden Park (Đardin), nestled beside Diocletian's Palace's northern wall, offers a more serene atmosphere with Advent wreath-lighting ceremonies every Sunday and spiritual music concerts. The University Campus (Kampus) runs its own three-week program with over 20 concerts, seven food stalls at student-friendly prices, and a dedicated party zone alongside a relaxed chill zone — free entry for students. Families will find the Mertojak Park location tailored specifically for children, with workshops, mascots, theatrical performances, and visits from St. Nicholas and St. Lucy. The Riva waterfront promenade provides a uniquely Mediterranean Christmas backdrop, culminating in a spectacular New Year's Eve celebration. Traditional Dalmatian foods, mulled wine, rakija, and fritule (fried dough balls) are staples throughout. The Obrov alley and Šperun neighborhood add further neighborhood charm to this city-wide celebration.
