Nestled within the heart of Arras's historic city center, the Place des Héros Christmas Market transforms one of northern France's most beautiful Flemish Baroque squares into a dazzling Court of Lights each holiday season. While the Grand'Place hosts the main market hub, Place des Héros offers its own enchanting atmosphere, anchored by a spectacular 25-meter giant Christmas tree and nightly illumination shows projected onto the iconic Belfry as evening falls. The Arras Christmas Market as a whole spans more than 150 chalets across both the Grand'Place and Place des Héros, making it one of the largest Christmas markets in the Hauts-de-France region. At Place des Héros, visitors can soak in the festive ambiance surrounded by the square's stunning architecture while browsing stalls offering handcrafted goods, artisan jewelry, natural cosmetics, and wooden toys. Nearly half of all vendors hail from the Hauts-de-France region, ensuring an authentically local experience. Food lovers will delight in regional specialties including Maroilles cheese, coeurs d'Arras (the area's distinctive heart-shaped cheese), Flemish gaufres (waffles), pain d'épices, and steaming cups of mulled wine. The highlight of each evening at Place des Héros is the breathtaking light show mapped onto the Belfry's façade, a free spectacle that draws crowds nightly. Father Christmas also makes a memorable appearance descending the Belfry on December 6th. The market runs from late November through late December, with extended hours on weekends.
